New Art Events in Amble at Dovecote Centre

Following on from the success of their first session at Amble's Dovecote Centre, organisers Luke McTaggart and Jim Donnelly share their next event:

Organisers of a new series of art events taking place at Amble’s Dovecote Centre were thrilled at the turnout for their first session and have now turned their sights to organising the next. Held on September 26th, the inaugural Dovecote Street ‘Crit’ offered the chance for artists, including professionals and amateurs alike, to come together alongside members of the community to share and discuss their work in a supportive and encouraging setting.

The organisers, Luke McTaggart and Jim Donnelly, say that they hope the events will help to foster a greater sense of artistic community in Amble, building on the prior success of their Dovecote Street Show Exhibition, held in the Dovecote Centre building in May of this year, an event which saw over 900 visitors.

The first session was met with a great deal of excitement, people seemed really enthused by the format and lots of people spoke of the boost in confidence it gave them presenting their work in that way – people couldn’t seem to wait for the next one! - Luke McTaggart.

The next event taking place on October 31st from 7-9pm will feature as opening guest speaker, Ashington Artist Iain Bolton.

Bolton will be taking to the stage to discuss his work ahead of his new solo show ‘The Disappearing Quiet’, which will open at the Dry Water Arts Centre, also in Amble, on the 24th November, with a preview from 6:15-8pm.

Attendants will be offered the chance to ask questions and discuss his work before going into a wider conversation where again, everyone will be offered the chance to show a piece of work to the audience.

One of the hopes of the organisers is that the events can help boost the profile of the Dovecote Centre as Amble’s Cultural Hub.

The centre is also home to the Northumberland Theatre Company, whom stage a number of regular productions, as well as to the monthly Amble Film Society. Entry to the events are just £2pp with hot refreshments provided.

Anyone interested in attending can just turn up on the night, and anyone who would like further details should contact: dovecotestreetshow@gmail.com
