A family friendly summer trail around Alnwick 

Calling all cultural explorer families!  Local or here on holiday?  You are all welcome. 

Can you visit all the places, spaces and venues before the end of the summer holidays? Take your tick sheet to Alnwick Playhouse to claim your sticker and postcard, proving you are a real Culture Champ!   Or simply tell them - "I'm a Culture Champ"

1. Alnwick Playhouse 

 

Situated in the heart of the market town of Alnwick, the Alnwick Playhouse has a full programme of live performances as well as screening films and hosting community groups. There is a cafe, accessible toilets and a studio space. Alnwick library can also be found here with toys and activities for little ones.

2. Bailiffgate Museum 

 

Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is an award winning, independent museum and gallery. It is led and run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Its objective is to be a people’s museum that preserves and celebrates the heritage of Alnwick and district. In addition it aims to provide an excellent community, educational and tourist resource. Exhibitions run throughout the year.

3. Alnwick Castle 

 

The castle is open daily between March and October, with a range of events taking place during this time. Alnwick Castle has over 950 years of history to discover. It is the second largest inhabited castle in the UK, and has served as a military outpost, a teaching college, a refuge for evacuees, a film set, and not least as a family home. 

 

NB entry to the Castle is separate to that for the Alnwick Garden and Lilidorei.

4. The Alnwick Garden 

 

Built to be unconventional, The Alnwick Garden is a unique, contemporary garden in the heart of Northumberland. Tickets to the Garden can be bought online or at the welcome desk. These are separate tickets from Alnwick Castle and Lilidorei.

5. Barter Books

 

One of the largest second hand bookshops in Britain, Barter Books is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. Browse the bookshelves, enjoy a relaxing cuppa by the fire or step back in time to your childhood in the impressive children’s books section.
